From Harmonize Your Inner Ocean, by Tammy Mundy, CMT
Over 70% of the body is composed of salty, nutrient-rich, ocean-like water. All of your internal organs are floating in this sea of fluid, which also bathes every cell of your tissues and organs, feeding them and receiving their waste products. Your circulating blood brings fresh supplies of oxygen and nutrients and carries away its accumulated waste… Techniques used in massage therapy are a proven and effective means of reducing stress and promoting overall health by releasing tension, promoting circulation and the movement of fluids, and thus harmonizing your inner ocean. >>Read the full article
From Pain Relief: What Massage Therapy Can Do For You, by Gabriela Klein
A couple of years ago, I had a nagging pain in my left hip. It got aggravated when I walked or ran. I couldn’t stretch it out, and even tried taking a break from my exercise routine… It turned out to be the result of scar tissue starting at my tailbone from a couple of falls I endured. I know I had broken my tailbone a few times, falling on it on concrete, ice, and even a boat edge. Recovering from that is very painful, but scar tissue can eventually pull on healthy muscle, causing imbalance and nagging pain… When she pressed on the scar, I yelped. She traced it around to my hip, and AHA! Bingo! For the rest of the session she worked to soften the overextended muscles. It was almost unbearable, but it was such a relief. I thought I would cry when I was relieved of the pain for the first time in months… The residual aching lasted up to a month. I had remnants of the hip pain on and off. If it flared up, I stretched the area the way the therapist showed me, and stayed away from repetitive movements for a few days. I am pain free since. I still know the scar is there, and feel it from time to time, but I learned how to manage it, and that has made me believe that massage is more than a passive experience; it can be truly healing. >>Read the full article
